Apple decided to close the headquarters in Russia. The company continues to provide access to its services (Apple Music & TV +), accepting payment via SIM card. Movies and series with Russian dubbing are still being released on Apple TV+. Intel has officially joined Apple, which had previously refused to use metals from the Russian Federation in its devices. Google, which produces Pixel smartphones, and Microsoft, which produces game consoles, continue to use Russian tungsten, gold and tantalum in their gadgets. The United States has a ban on tantalum from the Russian Federation, but not a single company has been fined for such imports. Apple removed a number of virtual private network (VPN) apps in Russia from its App Store on July 4, 2024, following a request by Russia's state communications watchdog Roskomnadzor, Russian news media reported.
The company promised to stop all exports into its sales channels in the country. Apple Pay and other services have been limited. Apple pulls top Russian social media app, VKontakte, from App Store but in few days Apple has restored the Russian social network "VKontakte" in the App Store. Due to a decrease in demand for premium smartphones from Apple and “uncontrolled supplies” of parallel imports, an oversupply of smartphones has developed on the market, primarily the iPhone 14 and 13. At the end of spring 2023, some iPhone models even fell in price by 6-10%. The American company Apple has published new rules for Russian app developers, allowing their users to use external payment methods for making purchases without Apple's involvement. Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia: "Apple paid a fine of 1.1 billion rubles (~$13mn) to the Russian budget. In July 2022, the service found the company to have violated antitrust laws. Apple prohibited iOS app developers from informing in-app customers about the ability to pay for purchases outside the App Store, as well as from using alternative payment methods.” Significantly decreased revenue in 2023 vs 2022.
