The Company Statement

Argus launches freight rates for Russian petroleum products exports. Argus Media has lobbied Moscow to amend a new law that will limit the UK price reporting agency’s business in Russia, arguing that it performs an important function in the country’s economy. The company wrote that since the 2022 full-blown invasion of Ukraine, it had been “the only international pricing agency that shared its data with the Russian authorities”. Moscow relies on its numbers for taxation, as well as for budget forecasts and macroeconomic models. Argus’s effort to protect its operations in Russia highlights the fact that not all western businesses joined the rush to leave the country in the wake of the assault on Ukraine.
