The name Bridgestone comes from a calque translation and transposition of ishibashi, meaning 'stone bridge' in Japanese. As of 2021, Bridgestone/Firestone is the second largest manufacturer of tires in the world, and 1st in car tires.

S8 Capital closed a deal to purchase Bridgestone assets in the Russian Federation - the company received a plant and tire distributor in the local market. Cordiant takes on former Bridgestone tyre plant in Russia.
