The transmission capacity in the cross-border connections to Russia will be restricted to secure the power system. In July 2026, Finnish grid operator Fingrid reportedly notified Russian telecom operators that it would stop servicing power transmission pylons carrying fibre-optic lines between Finland and Russia from 2027. The decision followed the suspension of electricity transmission between Russia and Finland in 2022, after which maintaining the infrastructure solely for telecom operators was described as economically unjustified.
