In a remarkable move, major digital platforms TikTok and Netflix have suspended their services in Russia, a response to the country’s newly enacted ‘fake news’ law. In light of Russia's new "fake news" law, TikTok has decided to suspend live streaming and new content for its video service while they consider the law's security implications. The Tagansky District Court of Moscow brought TikTok to administrative responsibility for refusing to provide data to Roskomnadzor as ordered. According to Article 19.7.10 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, the court imposed a fine on TikTok Pte. Ltd in the amount of 4 million rubles.

Profit of Russian TikTok in 2022 grew tenfold in a year. Google, Meta, Tiktok's debts removed from Russian state bailiffs' database. TikTok said that it was introducing new measures to limit the spread of videos from state-affiliated media accounts, including Russian and Chinese outlets, as the company deflects criticism that it could be used as a propaganda tool in a major election year.
