The United Nations is an intergovernmental organization whose stated purposes are to maintain international peace and security, develop friendly relations among nations, achieve international cooperation, and serve as a centre for harmonizing the actions of nations.

Russia has not been included in the renewed composition of the Council of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), the UN agency dealing with shipping safety issues. Russian airlines have lost contracts with the UN: Russian companies will stop working with UN missions by April 2024.
