Highland Gold is one of the leading gold miners in Russia and Central Asia. Mining operations are concentrated around four regional hubs — Khabarovsk, Transbaikalia, Kamchatka and Chukotka.
In 2003, Barrick Gold became an investor in Roman Abramovich's Highland Gold, gradually increasing its stake from 10% to 20%. But in 2012, she sold her stake in this project for about $130 million. The Canadian investor explained that participation in the Russian company is no longer "a key business" and "is not part of the strategy."
Kinross divests Russian assets to Highland Gold at half the set amount.
