The United States has postponed the imposition of sanctions against Serbian energy company NIS for another eight days, Serbian media reported, citing President Aleksandar Vučić. NIS previously announced that the US Treasury Department had extended its special license until October 1. However, following negotiations between Vučić and the US, the sanctions were postponed until October 9, 2025. Russian owners of a majority stake in the Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIS) are prepared to transfer control of the company to a third party due to US sanctions.

The postponement will last for one month and will not be extended further, the energy minister said in a statement. Serbian oil company NIS announced the entry into force of US sanctions. In an official statement, the company noted that it has not yet received a special license from the US Treasury Department, which is necessary for uninterrupted operations.
