In March 2022, the Japanese publisher left Russia, but retailers continue to sell SEGA console games on physical media imported through parallel imports. SEGA could have lost its rights to its brand in Russia, Kommersant reports. The Intellectual Property Court accepted a claim to remove legal protection from the brand and logo of the Japanese video game publisher in Russia due to their non-use. In particular, this concerns the cancellation of protection for the categories of video games, software, game discs, and arcade machines. Japanese gaming console manufacturer Sega has settled a case with Russian entrepreneur Pavel Baskakov, who tried to challenge the status of the company's trademarks. Sega no longer produces consoles, but devices that allow you to play games for them are sold in Russia in significant quantities.
