(NASDAQ: VEON, Euronext Amsterdam: VEON), a global digital operator that provides converged connectivity and online services announced that it has completed its exit from Russia with the closing of the sale of its Russian operations to a group of senior members of the PJSC VimpelCom management team, led by VimpelCom CEO Alexander Torbakhov. The transaction does not provide for any buy-back arrangements and signifies a complete exit from the Russian market for VEON. Changes are not yet reflected in the official EGRUL register. Veon warned Ukraine against confiscating Kyivstar: It will destroy the country’s reputation. Rumors about the possibility of Kyivstar's confiscation sent shares of its parent company crashing down.

Polymetal plans to sell russian assets to avert sanctions risk. The company confirmed it is considering moving its parent company’s domicile and primary listing, currently in Jersey and London respectively, to “Russia-friendly” Kazakhstan. "In light of recent developments, and in the interests of preserving shareholder value, the board and the special committee have decided to consider all possible options available for divestment of JSC Polymetal and its subsidiaries," Polymetal International said in a statement. Precious metals producer Polymetal International has agreed to sell its Russian assets to a Siberian gold miner for about $3.7 billion.

Wintershall Dea intends to fully exit Russia in an orderly manner complying with all applicable legal obligations. German Wintershall Dea completely wrote off its share in the Nord Stream operator due to the impossibility of estimating the terms and costs of restoring the damaged gas pipeline against the background of geopolitics, the company's report says. Wintershall Dea will cut some 500 jobs, or roughly a quarter of its staff, in a separation of its Russian activities. Vladimir Putin signed decrees according to which the shares of two foreign companies, namely the German Wintershall DEA and the Austrian OMV in joint ventures (JV) with Gazprom, will be forcibly sold to Russian owners. The British oil company Harbor Energy announced that it is purchasing from the German chemical concern BASF and LetterOne Mikhail Fridman all their shares in the oil and gas company Wintershall Dea. The deal will cost Harbor Energy $11.2 billion. As part of the deal, Harbor will acquire all of Wintershall's production assets, with the exception of Russian ones.

The Finnish energy company Fortum filed a lawsuit in a civil court in the Netherlands against the Russian PJSC "Forward Energo" (formerly PJSC "Fortum"). Fortum has exited all Russian operations and focuses solely on its Nordic strategy. In April 2023, Russian authorities seized Fortum’s assets under Presidential Decree No. 302, resulting in Fortum's loss of shareholder rights, full financial deconsolidation, and impairment of those assets, as reflected in its Q2 2023 results. Unilever also promised not to invest any further capital into the country nor to get profit from its presence in Russia. Unilever "will continue to supply essential food and hygiene products made in Russia to people in the country". Unilever flags risk it may have to halt Russia operations. As we see in 2023 - the company didn't met it promises, as its local entity in Russia (Unilever Rus LLC or ООО "Юнилевер Русь", tax id 7705183476) generated almost the same volume of local revenue in 2022 (RUB 84.9bn) vs RUB 86bn in 2021 or just 2% less. At the same time, its net profit increased from RUB 4.9bn to RUB 9.2bn or +91%! Also, due to this significant volume of profit, it was able to increase the local capital to RUB 34.5bn in 2022 from RUB 25.3bn in 2021 or +37%. It means that in fact the company reinvested the profit which is equal to investment of the new capital in the country. Moreover, the company will be obliged to pay profit tax (in addition to VAT, taxes from salary and other taxes) and indirectly support Russia's war machine in such a way. Unilever Rus LLC also paid the equivalent of $331mn of taxes in 2021 (and minimum the same amount in 2022 based on their financials). The NACP added Unilever to the list of “International Sponsors of War”. Decreased revenue in 2023 vs 2022. Unilever sale is approved by the russian government. The buyer of the Russian business of the transnational holding Unilever, headquartered in London, was the Arnest Group. The British conglomerate Unilever, which produces household chemicals and food products, announced its exit from the Russian market.
